MMT’s young playwrights festival Write Stuff! returns for its third year, encouraging young writers to submit their short plays to be produced as staged readings on the Waldron Stage. Students, see your characters come to life on the MMT stage: the competition is open to middle and high-school students and the deadline for submissions is January 31st, 2019. Mark that on your calendar folks! Submit plays in a PDF format to firstname.lastname@example.org
Several short plays are selected by a panel of readers from the submissions to be produced in a staged reading format and performed by Mill Mountain Theatre Conservatory students.
Scripts, 10-15 minutes in length, should be formatted as PDFs and emailed to email@example.com with the subject line “Write Stuff! Submission.” The deadline for script submissions is January 31st, 2019. Winners will be notified by February 11th, 2019.
This year Write Stuff! will be centered around:
“Discovering Truth about Ourselves and Others.”
How do we discover comforting or uncomfortable truths about ourselves? What do we learn about ourselves or the world around us as a product of the discovery? How do we discover the truth about another person or group of people who have different beliefs and identities from our own? How do we determine truth and non-truth when traditional sources of information are questioned or dismissed? When we discover a truth about ourselves or others, how does that change us and how do we act upon what we have learned? Discovering the truth about who we are is a lifelong process and discovering the truth about others can lead to empathy, understanding, and cooperation. We are asking young people to share their stories about journeys of personal discovery.
MMT has the privilege of being a hosting site for the Young Playwrights for Change competition. One of the winning plays from Write Stuff! will be submitted to Young Playwrights For Change from Mill Mountain Theatre Conservatory.
Tickets are only available 30 minutes prior to each performance and are pay what you can.
