2019 Season Youth Auditions

AUDITIONS FOR YOUTH ROLES IN MILL MOUNTAIN THEATRE’S 2019 SEASON will be held on Friday, February 22 from 4pm-7pm and Saturday, February 23 from 10am-3pm.  Some auditionees may be asked to attend callbacks from 3pm-6pm on Sunday February 24.

Write Stuff New Play Festival

Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr

Shakespeare’s Romeo And Juliet (new adaptation)

Holiday Show (TBA)

 

LOCATION:  MMT Rehearsal Studio (20 Church Ave SE, Roanoke, VA 24011 – 3rd floor). Free and metered parking is available nearby.

 

TO REQUEST AN AUDITION TIME: Email conservatoryauditions@nullmillmountain.org with your preference of audition day and list the shows for which you are interested in auditioning.

***IF AUDITIONING FOR Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr  OR  Holiday Show (TBA):  you must also attend the dance call on your audition day: Friday, February 22nd from 6:15pm-7:00pm or Saturday, February 23rd from 2:00pm-3:00pm.

 

***High school age youth interested in auditioning for ensemble roles in Mamma Mia should request an appointment time for the January Local Auditions, and plan to attend that dance call.  More information here: Local Auditions.

 

 

PLEASE PREPARE:

A one-minute monologue: if auditioning for Write Stuff New Play Festival and Romeo and Juliet

A one-minute monologue AND one-minute musical theatre song: if auditioning for Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr and the Holiday Show (TBA).  *Bring clearly marked sheet music for the accompanist.

*If auditioning for Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr  OR  the Holiday Show (TBA), you must also attend the dance call on your audition day: Friday, February 22nd from 6:15pm-7:00pm or Saturday, February 23rd from 2:00pm-3:00pm

Actors of all races and ethnicities are encouraged to audition for all roles.

THE LITTLE MERMAID JR.

ARIEL: the heroine of our story; a little mermaid who longs to be human. Must be a strong singer and dynamic performer. Ariel has some beautiful solos but must be able to convey meaning through gesture once she loses her voice

 

URSULA: a manipulative sea witch with a vendetta who tries to overthrow King Triton.  She is cunning and devious and will stop at nothing to get what she wants. Seeking a mature performer and strong singer who can bring out this villain’s humor while also finding texture in Ursula’s complexity

 

SEBASTIAN: a meticulous and anxious crab and court composer for King Triton who tries to keep Ariel safe.  Seeking a strong singer who can also handle Sebastian’s emotional range.

 

FLOUNDER: a rambunctious, spunky young fish and Ariel’s sincere and sensitive best friend who is loyal to the end

 

PRINCE ERIC: the adventurous prince who captures Ariel’s heart; would rather explore the ocean than govern a kingdom; charming and sensitive. Seeking a strong actor for this role.

 

KING TRITON:  Ruler of the sea; a ‘force to be reckoned with.’ Must command the stage as a strong leader but also show the tenderness of a parent. Non-singing role.

 

MERSISTERS (Aquata, Andrina, Arista, Atina, Adella, Allana): the daughters of King Triton and Ariel’s siblings; full of personality and sass.

 

SCUTTLE: the zany, know-it-all seagull and self-proclaimed expert on humans; funny and off-beat. Seeking a performer with good comedic timing who can have fun embracing Scuttle’s eccentricities

 

FLOTSAM & JETSAM: electric eels and Ursula’s henchmen; these slippery spies are sinister and sneaky

 

PILOT: the head sailor on Prince Eric’s ship. This nautical expert who entertains the sailors with wild tales of the sea.  Seeking a strong, confident singer-storyteller.

 

SAILORS: the crew of Prince Eric’s ship; eager for adventure and ready to tackle a storm.

 

GRIMSBY: Prince Eric’s prim and proper valet; rigid in personality and constantly trying to guide Prince Eric towards the throne.

 

CARLOTTA: headmistress in Prince Eric’s palace and Ariel’s greatest human ally; warm, maternal, and welcoming

 

CHEF LOUIS: the over-the-top head chef in the palace. He is always wild and frenetic. Must have strong comedic timing

 

CHEFS: Chef Louis’s assistants; Seeking singers who can hold their parts

 

THE GULLS: Scuttle’s flock of zany “backup singers” who help explain human stuff to Ariel

 

MERFOLK & SEA CREATURES / LAGOON ANIMALS / GULLS/  PRINCESSES: Seeking an ensemble of music theatre performers to play various sea creatures and palace people

 

ROMEO AND JULIET

Performances:  October 19 – 26

 

SEEKING: A company of Middle and High School performers to play multiple parts in this new adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic tale.

Previews & Performances December 4 – 22

 

SEEKING: Youth actors ages 6 – 18 for roles in our holiday musical.  Due to our licensing agreement, we are not allowed to divulge this title until Spring of 2019.
