MMT’s audition-only playwriting class is designed for advanced writers who are eager to develop their own original works for the stage. Through individual writing exercises, collaborative workshops, and peer feedback, students will refine their voice as playwrights, experiment with structure and dialogue, and explore the nuances of character and theme. This class provides a dynamic, hands-on environment where students can bring their unique stories to life, gain practical tools for writing compelling plays, and work together to support each other’s creative process.
In the first part of the class, students will focus on writing and developing their plays, while in the second part of the semester, they will transition into the roles of director and producer, collaborating with MMT’s Acting Conservatory students to bring their written work to life.
This class culminates in a live showcase for family and friends to see what their students have learned.
Enrollment in this course is approved via email submission.
Students must submit an idea for a play that includes a brief synopsis, along with the first 2-3 pages of script. The synopsis should outline the central plot, key themes, and major characters. The script should feature an excerpt of the play that showcases the tone and dynamics of the characters.
To apply please email conservatoryauditions@nullmillmountain.org no later than Saturday – January 4th at 5:00 pm EST.
Conservatory students are expected to conduct themselves as representatives of Mill Mountain Theatre in their character and conduct both inside and outside of class. This includes, but is not limited to, kindness towards peers, respect towards instructors, and timely arrival to class. If any student cannot conduct themselves accordingly, they will be asked to leave for the remainder of the semester and re-audition the following semester.
