Mill Mountain Theatre is seeking 2022 Principal Role video submissions for both Equity and Non-Equity performers for the following shows In The Heights, Fun Home, The Diary of Anne Frank and Holiday Inn. Please read the following information carefully.

PRINCIPALS including:
USNAVI DE LA VEGA – Male Identifying, 20s-30s, Dominican. Owner of De La Vega Bodega, his parents emigrated from the Dominican Republic and have since passed away. The play’s narrator and the eyes and ears of his Washington Heights neighborhood. Loving, charming, charismatic, witty, hard-working, and loyal. Excellent rapper and singer, high baritone/tenor to G4. Moves well.
NINA ROSARIO – Female Identifying, 20s, first generation Puerto Rican-American. Freshman at Stanford. Intelligent, hard-working, and driven. Trying to make her family proud while navigating adulthood. A beacon of hope and inspiration to all who know her; she represents the opportunity outside of “the heights.”. Strong belt/mix to an E.A good mover.
CAMILA ROSARIO – Female Identifying, 40s-50s, Puerto Rican. Nina’s mother. Co-owner of Rosario’s. A smart, sharp tongued, fierce, and loving mother. Spanish speaking, strong singer-belter (G3-B4) Moves well.
BENNY – Male Identifying, 20s-30s, African-American singer/rapper. Rosario Car Service employee. Attractive with an air of lingering boyish energy. Kevin saw promise and helped shape him into a responsible, hard-working young man. Driven, aspiring businessman. Excellent rapper, good mover, and pop tenor voice to Ab4.
VANESSA – Female Identifying, 20s-30s A shampoo girl at Daniela’s Salon. Beautiful, vivacious, driven and intelligent with a strong sense of humor. She wants to get out of the barrio, worldly and urban. Strong dancer with an excellent high belt to E5.
SONNY – Male Identifying, 16 – 20, Dominican. Usnavi’s cousin. Streetwise yet a goofball. Charming and adorable, he feigns a persona of perceived cool masculinity. He is someone that needs guidance. Strong comedic timing. Excellent rapper and tenor to Bb4.
ABUELA CLAUDIA – Female Identifying, 60s-70s, Cuban. Raised Usnavi though not his blood grandmother. Loving matriarch for the entire community. Deeply loving and unwaveringly optimistic with a surprising sense of humor. Full of wisdom, life experience, memories and years of hard work. Excellent singer. Spanish speaking a plus; belter (F#3 to C5).
DANIELA – Female Identifying, 30s-40s. Puerto Rican. Owner of Daniela’s Salon. Brash, funny, and outspoken. Meticulous about her appearance. the gossip queen of the neighborhood. Spanish speaker. Excellent singer, good mover with strong comedic timing. Alto Belter (G3 to C5).
CARLA – Female Identifying, 20s-30s. Works at the salon. Daniela’s sidekick. Sweet and likeable. Strong in her faith, she is a pure, sweet, innocent, and loving woman who is devoted to her family and friends though she is easily taken advantage of because of her naivety. Strong dancer and singer with comedic timing. Spanish speaking a plus. Stronger dancer. Alto Belter (G3 to C5)
GRAFFITI PETE – Male-identifying, 20s A graffiti artist and the nemesis of Usnavi, he is always hanging out on the streets, dancing to his boombox, spray-painting any surface he can. Sonny and Graffiti Pete are good friends, much to Usnavi’s disproval. Rap skills, Very strong dancer, acro and rap skills.

PRINCIPALS including:
Alison – Early 40s. The narrator of this story. Now an adult, she is able to reflect on her own life and her relationship with her father before his death.
Bruce Bechdel – Alison’s father. An English teacher and funeral home director. He is a complicated man with a hot temper as a result of years of repression.
Helen Bechdel – Alison’s mother, She tries to be a good mother and wife, while dealing with frustration and unhappiness with her marriage.
Medium Alison – 19-Early 20s. She is a freshman at college discovering her sexuality. Should be comfortable with kissing and physical contact with character Joan.
Small Alison – Around 9 years old, opinionated and intelligent.
Christian Bechdel – Alison’s brother, around 10 years old when we meet him but seeking an actor in their 20s. As the oldest of the siblings, he strives to be the leader but is sometimes overshadowed by Alison’s strong personality.
John Bechdel – Alison’s brother, around 6 years old when we meet him but seeking an actor in their 20s. He is full of energy with a large imagination and looks up to his siblings.
Roy/Mark/Pete/Bobby Jeremy – Roy, a young man Bruce hires to do yard work; Pete, a mourner who visits the funeral home; Mark, a high school junior; Bobby Jeremy, the lead singer of a band in Alison’s imagination. All played by the same actor.
Joan – A college student. She is confident and openly idenfitifies as lesbian. Should be comfortable with kissing and physical contact with character Medium Alison.

PRINCIPALS including:
Anne Frank – 13-15. The youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank, Anne is a lively, curious girl.
Otto Frank – Middle 40s-50s. Father of Anne and Margot. He is a level-headed and patient man, and the decision-maker of the group. Anne is very close to him.
Edith Frank – Mid-40s. Wife and mother from a wealthy German family and devoted to tradition. She has a strained relationship with Anne, as she wishes Anne were more proper and polite.
Margot Frank – 15-17. Sister to Anne. She is quiet, obedient, and demure, the complete opposite of Anne.
Miep Gies – Mid 20s-30s. Entrusted by Otto Frank with provisioning the occupants of the Annex and hiding them from the outside world. She is empathetic, compassionate, and friendly.
Peter Van Daan – 17-19. Ages from the introverted teenager to the more mature 19 year-old.
Mr. Kraler – 35-45. Helps Miep with the responsibilities of feeding and hiding the occupants of the Annex. He is a trusted colleague and friend.
Mrs. Van Daan – Mid 40s. She is loud, egotistical, and critical of others. She is the subject of most of the conflict in the group.
Mr. Van Daan – Mid-40s to 50s. He is the former business partner of Otto Frank, and is selfish, ungrateful, and easily irritated. He is rather withdrawn from the other occupants of the Annex.
Mr. Dussel – Mid 40’s-50’s. Dentist, old-fashioned, and unhappy with everything. He is a man who has not come to
terms with his situation.

PRINCIPALS including:
Jim Hardy – 30’s. An idealistic singer-songwriter who dreams of leaving show business and living a normal life on a farm. He is in a musical act involving himself, his best friend, Ted Hanover, and Lila Dixon. Baritone.
Ted Hanover – 30s. A charismatic dancer, ladies man, and aspiring actor who dreams of making it big. Must be excellent in tap. Baritone.
Lila Dixon – 30s. Lila is the longtime girlfriend and mismatched fiancé of Jim Hardy, as she is not sure that his plan for a normal life is really for her. High Belt, must tap.
Danny Reed – 30s-50s. The sarcastic manager for the musical act of Hardy, Hanover, and Dixon. Danny strives to make his clients stars.
Linda Mason – 30s. She is a school teacher with the hidden talents of a singer and dancer. Belt/mix.
Charlie Winslow – A 10 year old boy and one of Linda’s students.
Louise – 40s-50s. A small-town car mechanic and fix-it woman. Perceptive. Belt.

Performers auditioning for principal roles may not be asked to sing, act or dance in the initial audition.

Contract Salary (Weekly Minimum): MainStage shows are SPT Tier 7 (In The Heights, The Diary of Anne Frank, Holiday Inn). Waldron and Fringe Series Shows are SPT Tier 4 (Fun Home).
