MMT Conservatory is the pre-professional training program at Mill Mountain Theatre. The Conservatory fosters the artistic growth of burgeoning artists, nurturing creativity and self-expression in a setting intimately connected to the region’s premier professional theatre. Join us for Musical Theatre Conservatory to train at a high level of music, dance and acting techniques. In this course, we will delve deeply into character development, scoring a song, musical expression, advanced choreography and complex scene work. Musical Theatre Conservatory students will be challenged with complex material, designed to hone their individual and professional growth as a performing artist.
This course will culminate in a Showcase, where students will be able to demonstrate what they have learned to family and friends.
Enrollment in this course is approved via audition video.
Students must submit a horizontal audition video (midline up) and slate their name, grade and piece. Students must perform two musical theatre pieces (16 bars/30 seconds or less each) and one dance combo, provided below. Musical pieces may be accompanied by a live accompanist or tracks in the background (acapella is discouraged, as it is easier to sing with music backing you!).
Please note the below standards MMT Staff are looking for in your audition:
- Acting: Emote engaging and convincing characters through music and dance, fully developed characters conveyed through expression and beats
- Dance: Mastery of a intermediate/advanced musical theatre dance application, strong stage presence
- Music: Pitch accuracy, mastery of breath control, skilled music theory terminology, understanding of genre interpretation, ownership of voice
To audition please email conservatoryauditions@nullmillmountain.org no later than Saturday – January 4th at 5:00 pm EST. Auditions are also being held in-person at youth season auditions on Friday – January 10th and Saturday – January 11th more information is available on our website HERE.
