Mill Mountain Theatre Presents Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird, Starring Producing Artistic Director Ginger Poole as the Narrator.
Roanoke, VA – Mill Mountain Theatre (MMT) is proud to announce its upcoming production of Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird, running from September 25 through October 6, 2024. This classic tale of racial injustice and moral growth is being brought back to our stage by popular demand, ten years after its last sold-out run at MMT.
The production will feature Mill Mountain Theatre’s own Producing Artistic Director, Ginger Poole, in the role of the Narrator. Poole, who has been a cornerstone of MMT for the past 18 years, is set to bring a unique depth to this character, weaving the past and present of Maycomb, Alabama, with her compelling storytelling. This production could mark her final performance on the MMT stage, adding an emotional layer to an already profound story. However, in the world of theatre, as Ginger often says, “you never know what the future holds.”
Ginger Poole’s tenure at Mill Mountain Theatre has been nothing short of transformative. She first joined the theatre as an actor and choreographer before stepping into leadership as the Director of Education. Under her guidance as Producing Artistic Director—the first woman to hold this title at MMT—the theatre has not only survived financial struggles and a pandemic shutdown but has thrived. Poole’s commitment to balancing artistic excellence with financial responsibility has been key to MMT’s resurgence, and her leadership has been pivotal during the theatre’s 60th anniversary season.
To Kill A Mockingbird is directed by a talented team that includes some of the best in the industry including MMT Alumni who are now Broadway performers, some of the best local talent, and very talented students from MMT’s Conservatory program. “The production promises to be a powerful and moving experience, capturing the timeless relevance of Lee’s novel in today’s world. With its potent themes of justice, integrity, and compassion, this play continues to resonate deeply with audiences of all ages.” Added Poole.
