Mill Mountain Theatre is an organization committed to welcoming all people into our theatre home, into our community and becoming a family.
To our African American colleagues especially, we grieve with you and are outraged with you at what we have all witnessed in the killing of George Floyd. We stand beside you and pledge to work with you for racial equality and racial justice.
We must give space for these hard conversations and necessary change to take place with passion and grace.
We must give space to hear and listen to each other with passion and grace.
We must give space to the healing capacity and support each other with passion and grace.
We must take our share of responsibility for what is happening to our world. We have the ability to reshape and make change. We too must do the work.
While performing arts communities across our nation are currently forced to take an intermission in our operations and programming, it gives us the gift of time to focus on our responsibility for change and to come back better and stronger. We must do this for each other, for everyone.
We will continue with our commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion on the Board Level, Staff Level, Educational Level, in our programming, and with all of our Artists.
We accept the responsibility and charge ourselves to push the bar with the following:
- We pledge that equity, diversity, and inclusion will be even greater priorities in our artistic work, education programs, and employment practices, and in our conversations with artists, partners and donors.
- We pledge to support and stand with our Black colleagues, staff, artists, educators, students, and audiences, and we will hear and listen to their stories and perspectives.
- We pledge to have these conversations and continually give space for them to happen.
- We pledge to start the healing with the work toward racial justice and to provide the necessary support.
We are Mill Mountain Theatre.
We see you.
We hear you.
We are here for you.
We are in this together.
Black lives matter.
