Lyrics & Layers is an immersive masterclass designed to help performers dig beneath the surface of a song and uncover the emotion, truth, objective, and subtext that bring it fully to life. Together, we’ll explore how lyrics function as dialogue, how musical shifts reveal character, and how to build layered, storytelling that feels specific, grounded, and compelling.
Participants will:
-Break down lyrics as active text, not just melody
-Identify beats, objectives, and stakes within a song
-Discover the “moment before” and clarify character choices
-Connect vocal technique to emotional intention
-Transform performances from presentational to deeply personal
Whether you’re preparing for auditions, competition, or the stage, Lyrics & Layers will equip you with practical tools to make every song feel lived-in, truthful, and unforgettable. Because it’s never just about hitting the note, it’s about telling the story.
Students need to bring a prepared song, karaoke track/piano track, sheet music, notebook, and pencil.
